Job Description

Employment Type: Full-time
Work Model: Remote
Location: Bucharest, Romania

We are looking for a Frontend Lead to own frontend architecture, performance strategy, and engineering standards across the product. This role combines deep technical leadership with hands-on contribution, acting as the technical authority for frontend decisions while mentoring engineers and ensuring long-term maintainability of the codebase.

You will work closely with backend leadership, product, and engineering management to define how the frontend scales technically and organizationally, while remaining pragmatic and resistant to unnecessary churn.

What you will be doing

• Own and evolve the overall frontend architecture, including modularization, layout patterns, component boundaries, and shared abstractions
• Define and maintain frontend API contracts in close collaboration with backend teams
• Set and enforce performance budgets, profiling strategies, and optimization practices
• Lead technical decision-making around routing strategy, state management evolution, and styling approaches
• Establish and uphold engineering standards, including code quality, review practices, and design system hygiene
• Define expectations around CI/CD, rollout safety, and operational readiness for frontend releases
• Actively mentor frontend engineers through reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance
• Contribute hands-on to critical or complex parts of the codebase where leadership by example is required

Must-have requirements

• Strong architectural experience in large-scale React and Next.js applications
• Proven ability to own and evolve frontend architecture over time, not just design it once
• Experience leading frontend performance initiatives in production environments
• Deep understanding of SSR vs CSR trade-offs and routing strategies in Next.js
• Operational maturity, including observability, rollout safety, and failure-aware design
• Proven experience mentoring engineers and enforcing technical standards

Nice-to-have experience

• Experience guiding or evaluating major framework or architectural migrations
• Exposure to design system ownership and cross-team UI consistency
• Experience working in high-traffic or real-time products
• Prior involvement in frontend hiring, onboarding, or leveling discussions

Tech environment

• React, TypeScript
• Next.js (Pages Router, with clear evaluation of App Router when appropriate)
• Modern frontend tooling and CI/CD pipelines
• Design systems and shared component libraries
